About Axé Capoeira

Grupo Axé Capoeira was founded by Mestre Barrão in Recife, Brazil in 1982. Since then, the group has expanded across the globe to become a worldwide leader in Capoeira instruction. Currently there are schools in 26 countries with more than 10,000 students.

Grupo Axé Capoeira Kansas City works hard to ensure that Capoeira has a strong future. Through training, travel and participating in events, we hope to increase our knowledge in the art and contribute to the evolution of Capoeira. Our goal is for Capoeira to be placed among the most widely-practiced and respected martial art forms in the world.

Domestically, Axé Capoeira manages locations in five U.S. cities: Chicago, Phoenix, Tucson, Atlanta, Maryland, and Kansas City. We welcome you to come join us!

Philosophy

The philosophy of Grupo Axé Capoeira is to respect all Mestres, preserve the roots and traditions of Capoeira, and train Capoeira in all its aspects: as a fight, art, and culture. We endeavor to teach Community and educate students so that Capoeira will grow in a positive healthy way.

We attempt to pass on to the students physical and mental methods of training so that they learn to create situations and maintain a dialogue within the game. Students learn to deal with any situation in or outside of the Roda.

In North America, we not only teach movements, students who train in Kansas City are invited to learn: Portuguese, song, music (For Capoeira and for cultural dances) and customs so that the students may become true capoeiristas.

Your first class is always free, and there are no contracts to sign.
